It also sometimes confused developers about the intent and the permissible usage of the service. The Amazon Associates Web Service exposes Amazon's product data for developers to use primarily to drive traffic back to Amazon’s web sites. We thought changing the name would make this even clearer for developers considering using the service. The name change will not impact the functionality of existing applications.

名前が"ECS"ではAmazonが意図していない使われ方をされる(実際、利用規約について揉めたりデータ提供を停止されたようなサイトがある)等混乱を招くことがあったため、"Amazon Associates Web Service"と改称したようです。
提供される機能に変更はないようです。

また、冒頭のアナウンスによると、A2S(ECS)からAmazon UnboxやAmazon MP3のデータへアクセスできるようになったようです。
